Malibu Beach nightlife guide to cocktail bars with perfect sunsets and laid-back beach lounges

With 21 miles of premium California coastline just north of Los Angeles, Malibu is an unforgettable spot to sip a cocktail or glass of wine with a plate of fresh seafood or sunset extraordinaire. Nightlife options are limited, but you can find a small after-midnight scene, perfect post-surf posts and summer music festivals in nearby Topanga Canyon.
Malibu is a magical slice of the California coast with celebrity residents, gorgeous beaches and award-winning views. A seaside playground for the rich and richer, Malibu is an amazing destination for an early brunch, afternoon frisbee on the beach or sunset cocktails overlooking the Pacific. Looking for a cool place to chill after a day of surfing with a glass of wine in hand? You have plenty of oceanfront options, including Spruzzo, Geoffrey's or The Sunset. The neighborhood is home to two venues with live music permits, Duke's and Malibu Inn, both of which close at 10PM on the weekends. Your best bet for nightlife in Malibu is the Blue Lounge at Moonshadows restaurant. With a cool bar scene, deck overlooking the ocean and live DJs every night of the week, this relaxed hangout is a favorite of local rich kids and features no cover. Open until midnight during the week and 1:30AM on Friday and Saturday, the Blue Lounge is an easygoing spot to chill in a chaise lounge. Another late-night bar with an outdoor patio is Taverna Tony, a Greek restaurant with belly dancing that is open until 12:30AM on weekends. You can also try Topanga Canyon, a bohemian enclave of artists and musicians situated just east of Malibu. This colorful hippie community hosts the Topanga Days music festival every Memorial Day weekend, along with off-beat celebrations throughout the summer including Topanga Earthday, Topanga Blues Festival and Topanga Folk Festival.
